- Base salary will be in the range $80,448.78 - $107,104.10 + 17% Superannuation (Academic Level A)

About This Opportunity
In this position you will lead research projects investigating the performance of timber connections in Australian wood products. This research will require a deep understanding of timber connection fundamentals, including performance of screws, dowels, other dowel-type fasteners, and other types of timber fixings. You will work in close collaboration with researchers in the Australian Research Council Industrial Transformation Research Hub to Advance Timber for Australia’s Future Built Environment - IH220100016 (ARC Advance Timber Hub), and The University of Queensland Centre for Future Timber Structures. The successful candidate is expected to publish research outcomes in reputable journals, prepare research reports and carry out occasional administrative support duties. The candidate is also encouraged to help pursue funding opportunities for the long-term continuation of this line of research.
Additionally, the position requires formulation of research projects and supervision of research projects including undergraduate, MPhil and PhD students.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Research: Lead and collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, produce high-quality research outputs, work within ARC Advance Timber Hub framework, transfer knowledge and technologies to end-users, publish in reputable journals, utilise best practice research methodologies and participate in project discussions.
- Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure the ethical conduct of research.
- Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.
- Teaching and Learning: As a ‘Research focussed’ position, there is no formal requirement for undergraduate teaching. However, it is strongly encouraged that you actively seek teaching opportunities and achieve teaching quality feedback.

About You
- Completion or near completion of a PhD in the field of Timber Engineering with a background in performance of timber connections.
- An emerging profile in research of timber connections, e.g. with contribution to undergraduate student supervision.
- Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.
- Demonstrated knowledge in experimental testing of (mass) timber connections including design of test setups.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively and establish a rapport and good working relationships with students, staff, and industry partners.
- An effective ability to time manage and prioritise demands.
- High attention to detail and a methodical but expeditious approach to research work.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues and peers, including those from different disciplines, as well as with administrative and technical staff.
