National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA)

The National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) is an internationally recognised Research Centre that works as a catalyst for change in the alcohol and other drugs field. A collaborative venture between Flinders University and the Australian Government Department of Health, NCETA is located within the College of Medicine and Public Health and is part of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) at Flinders University in South Australia. NCETA is a key national research centre in the alcohol and other drug field. The Centre works to reduce the harms from alcohol and other drugs from prevention through to treatment. A key focus of the Centre is workforce development (WFD).

About the Research Fellow Role (Level B)

The Research Fellow at the National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA) will lead and contribute to high-quality research, evaluation, and consultancy projects aimed at reducing harms from alcohol and other drugs. This role involves managing complex projects, developing innovative research methodologies, and producing actionable outputs for policy and practice. The position also supports workforce development initiatives, supervises student research, and fosters collaborations at national and international levels.

  • Lead and manage research, evaluation, and consultancy projects, ensuring delivery of milestones and high-quality outputs.
  • Design and conduct surveys, systematic reviews, and advanced data analysis for NCETA projects.
  • Prepare research proposals, tenders, reports, and peer-reviewed publications; contribute to external funding applications.
  • Supervise student research projects and engage in knowledge dissemination through lectures, conferences, and workshops.

About You

You are an accomplished researcher with expertise in Public Health, Psychology, or Behavioural Science, bringing a strong track record of high-quality publications and practical research experience. You excel in both qualitative and quantitative methods, have advanced analytical skills, and can translate complex findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences. Your ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate effectively, and communicate clearly makes you a valuable contributor to NCETA’s mission.

  • PhD or EdD in a relevant discipline with demonstrated research excellence and national/international publications.
  • Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research, statistical analysis (SPSS or equivalent), and working with large datasets.
  • Strong scientific writing, project management, and ability to deliver research for academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Collaborative and self-motivated, with well-developed interpersonal skills and experience engaging diverse stakeholders.

About the Senior Research Fellow Role (Level C)

The Senior Research Fellow will lead high-impact research and evaluation projects at NCETA, driving strategic growth through external funding, partnerships, and innovative outputs. This role combines research leadership, project management, and collaboration to advance evidence-based solutions in the alcohol and other drugs field.

  • Lead and manage research projects, securing external grants and delivering strategic objectives.
  • Build and maintain national and international partnerships to enhance research impact.
  • Produce high-quality publications and disseminate findings through conferences and media.
  • Mentor research staff and supervise Higher Degree by Research students.

About You

You are an experienced researcher with a PhD in a relevant discipline and a proven track record of high-quality publications and successful grant applications. You bring expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex projects while fostering collaborations across academia, industry, and government.

  • PhD (or equivalent) in psychology, behavioural science, public health, or related field, with outstanding research achievements.
  • Demonstrated success in securing competitive research funding and supervising honours and higher degree students.
  • Skilled in advanced statistical analysis (SPSS or equivalent), large dataset interrogation, and qualitative research methods.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills, with the ability to lead teams and build strategic partnerships.
