Offer Description
A call for applications is open for a Research Grant (BI) within the scope of the project “VIMOS – Virtual Integrated Market Online Shopping”, with SIID topology - Business R&D - Co-promotion - Low Density, project number 21244, NORTE2030- FEDER02214300”, funded by the “European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), Northern Regional Programme (Norte 2030) of Portugal 2030”, under the following conditions:

2. Admission Requirements
- The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related field.
- The candidate must be enrolled in a Master's degree program in Computer Science or a related field.
- The candidate must be fluent in Portuguese and English (written and oral communication).
3. Work Plan
The main tasks of this plan are:
- Collaboration in the construction of a reference model with the perception and experimentation solutions to be validated.
- Collaboration in the automation of the process of creating perception and experimentation experiences.
- Collaboration in optimizing the process of manipulating objects in 3D environments.
- Collaboration in the preparation of scientific articles and support in the preparation of technical reports.
4. Objectives
To design and implement a reference model that allows for improving the way products are perceived, manipulated, and experienced in an online 3D context; to ensure the simplification of the creation of perception and experimentation experiences - through automation and support via intelligent systems; and the writing of scientific articles and support in the preparation of technical reports.
5. Applicable legislation and regulations

6. Workplace and scientific supervision
The work will be carried out at the facilities of the project co-promoters, under the scientific supervision of Professor Paulo Jorge Teixeira Matos and Professor Pedro Filipe Fernandes Oliveira.
7. Grant Duration
The grant will have an initial duration of 6 months, with a planned start date of 01/10/2026 (non-renewable).
8. Monthly maintenance allowance amount
The grant amount corresponds to 1090.98€, according to the table of grant values awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country.
Grant holders will benefit from personal accident insurance and, if they are not covered by any social protection scheme, they can ensure the exercise of their right to social security by joining the voluntary social insurance scheme, under the terms provided for in the Code of Contribution Schemes of the Social Security System. The grant amount will be paid monthly by bank transfer.
9. Selection methods and their respective evaluation
The selection methods to be used will be the following:
- Technical knowledge and experience, according to the desired profile (50%);
- Scientific curriculum, considering publications and participation in projects (30%);
- Conditions, and expression of interest, to undertake doctoral training within the scope of the project (20%). If deemed necessary, the jury may summon eligible candidates for an in-person interview, where the candidates' motivation, availability, and knowledge to develop the proposed work plan will be assessed. In this circumstance, the final grade will result from the interview (weighted at 30%) and the evaluation of the previous points (weighted at 70%).
The jury may not award the grant if the candidates' classification is lower than 9.5 out of 20.
10. Composition of the Selection Jury
The jury consists of Professor Paulo Jorge Teixeira Matos (President), Professor Pedro Filipe Oliveira (member), and Professor Rogério Tavares (member). Alternates: Professor Rui Pedro Lopes and Professor José Gonçalves.
11. Method of publication/notification of results
The communications and final results of the evaluation will be published through the UPB application submission portal or, if necessary, by email notification.
12. Application deadline
The competition is open from 31/08/2026 to 11/09/2026.
13. Method of submitting applications
Applications can be submitted through the UPB application submission portal (http://concursos.ipb.pt), including the following documents:

- Academic qualifications certificate;
- Letter of motivation
Documents proving the holding of academic degrees or diplomas, or enrollment in an academic degree or diploma program, may be waived during the application phase, being replaced by a declaration of honor from the candidate. Verification of this condition is mandatory during the contracting phase of the grant.
Academic degrees obtained in foreign countries require recognition by a Portuguese Institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ministerial Order No. 33/2019, of January 25. Presentation of the recognition is mandatory for signing the contract.
14. Deadlines and procedures for complaints and appeals
If the decision to be taken is unfavorable to the granting of the requested grant, candidates have a period of 10 working days, after the date of publication of the evaluation results, to express their opinion, if they wish, in a prior hearing, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.
An appeal against the final decision may be lodged with the Rector of UPB within 15 working days after notification.
