Offer Description
LIP opens a call for selection of fellows for one Research Student Fellowship (BI Master) for participation in the project “MuCol: A design study for a Muon Collider complex at 10 TeV center of mass” Ref. 101094300/Horizon-INFRA-2022-Dev-01, funded by EU Horizon.
Work plan:
The recent European Accelerator R&D roadmap includes the Muon Collider as a novel project with renewed interest in the future of Particle Physics. This is based on the physics potential of a lepton collider with a center of mass energy of 10 TeV and on the recent advances in technology that make the realization of a muon collider possible. Muons are much heavier than electrons resulting in much reduced synchrotron radiation thus allowing acceleration and collision in compact dimensions. The work plan will be carried out in the framework of the activities of the LIP group in the MuCol project and the CMS experiment, one of the outstanding research groups in High Energy Physics in Portugal. At LIP, we operate a Tier-2 computer center, provide resources for data analysis both locally and as a part of the CMS computing grid.
The successful candidate will participate in the data analysis for the study of the Higgs boson properties and the sensitivity reach at a future Muon Collider to fully exploit the discovery opportunities in the search for New Physics.
Legislation:
The fellowship contract will be established according to the Regulations for Research Grants of LIP and FCT and to the Status of Scientific Research Fellow (Law nº 40/2004 de 18 de Agosto, and its successive amendments).
