OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP
Nova SBE/BII/2026/04
A call for applications for 1 Research Initiation Fellowship (Tech Junior Consultant) is open at Nova School of Business and Economics (NOVA SBE) under the Project “Laboratory of Pedagogical Practices — Observation, Feedback, and Development”, funded under the agreement between Nova SBE and Fundação Pedro Queiroz Pereira, with the following conditions:
MAIN FIELD
Management, Economics, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Technology.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Our Digital Data Design Institute is an affiliate of the Harvard Business School AI Institute, founded in 2022 on the premise that AI technology is only half the answer and that businesses must also revamp their processes to harness AI’s potential.
Based at Nova SBE’s Carcavelos campus, the Digital Data Design Institute at Nova SBE and NOVA Medical School fosters interdisciplinary scientific research that helps businesses navigate the fast-evolving tech landscape. We believe the coming years will require extensive testing and experimentation with various technologies. With this in mind, the institute aims to help companies understand emerging technologies and seamlessly integrate them into their operations.
The AI X Lab is an experimentation-driven space dedicated to advancing our understanding of human–AI interaction, and an initiative of our Institute. Equipped with cutting-edge technology for data collection and behavioral analysis, the Lab enables researchers to design and study real-world experiments that explore how people engage with intelligent systems and how these interactions shape decision-making, collaboration, and learning.
Beyond research, the AI X Lab also serves as a tech-immersive learning environment, allowing students and faculty to experience new ways of engaging with technology – through interactive sessions, hands-on experiments, and innovative educational formats that bridge theory and practice.
Specifically, the Tech Junior Consultant will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of the field experiment foreseen for this project.
Academic Requirements
- All candidates should be currently enrolled in a master’s program and available to dedicate part-time to the fellowship (mandatory).
- Background in Management, Economics, Information Systems, Engineering, or Technology (preferred).
- Additional courses or hands-on experience in Data Engineering, Python/programming, IoT or sensor-based data collection, Tech Consulting, or Digital Transformation processes (preferred).
- Fluency in Portuguese, both written and verbal (preferred).
Competencies
- Genuine curiosity about hands-on experimentation with emerging technologies — comfortable getting into the details of sensors, data pipelines, and lab infrastructure, not just the theory.
- Strong organizational skills, with attention to detail when it comes to data integrity, documentation, and reproducibility of experiments.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively present results, both in written and oral form, to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- Capacity to structure and convey technical knowledge in an accessible manner, contributing to designing effective materials aligned with industry needs.
- Comfortable working autonomously on ambiguous, evolving problems — this is a lab in active build-out, so initiative and adaptability matter as much as technical skill.
WORK PLAN
- Support the collection, structuring, and quality-control of experimental data, ensuring it is captured accurately and consistently across sessions.
- Help maintain reliable, well-documented data storage solutions, safeguarding data integrity, traceability, and compliance with relevant privacy and ethical standards.
- Support the processing and preliminary analysis of collected data, preparing it for use in research and pedagogical applications.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the AI X Lab's infrastructure and experimental protocols, working closely with the Lab's team.
- Help document processes, findings, and lessons learned, contributing to materials that can be shared with partners, students, and the broader academic community.
- Collaborate on ad hoc projects related to AI experimentation and applied research, with the opportunity to shape the direction of a brand-new lab from its earliest stages.
