Job Description Summary

As a Senior Research Investigator with the Learning Analytics & Artificial Intelligence program, a successful candidate will provide intellectual, managerial, and research leadership on both organizational strategic direction and on sponsored projects. The candidate should have strong research skills and substantive experience using and innovating in areas such as intelligent systems, information systems, and artificial intelligence and education. The individual will help to seek funding through a variety of traditional and non-traditional means. They will have strong research and management skills and be capable of leading and participating in research projects. Entails both management of relationships with partners and funders.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses in one of the master’s programs. This position is grant funded until June 30, 2027, and will be renewed if funding allows.

Job Description

  • Manage, coordinate, and run comprehensive research experiments, in accordance with IRB protocols; Oversee all aspects of research projects, including research design, data collection, primary and secondary data analysis, and report writing. Support overall research activities. Contribute to the development of research outputs such as reports, presentations, and academic papers.
  • Prepare and write grant proposals. Assist in seeking funding opportunities, including developing relations with and presenting proposals to potential funders. Assist in managing project timelines and deliverables. Establish and optimize operational processes to support the successful execution of the grant, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness. Regularly assess project operations, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance workflow. Coordinate all aspects of project fulfillment, from resource allocation to timeline management and quality assurance. Work closely with Penn GSE teams to guarantee compliance with grant guidelines, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Teach 1-2 courses per year within the department. Create instructional materials in collaboration with faculty.
  • Initiate and maintain partnerships with edTech companies, NGOs, and other external stakeholders to create collaborative opportunities for research, teaching, student projects, and knowledge exchange. Coordinate with faculty and teaching staff to schedule class sessions, guest speakers, and project milestones. Provide administrative and pedagogical support for courses, including managing learning platforms and organizing teaching materials. Help design, implement, and evaluate course-related projects.

ESSENTIAL:

  • A Master’s degree in learning design, intelligent systems, information management, learning analytics, or related field is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of applied research experience and supervising projects.
  • Excellent analytic, writing, and communication skills are necessary.
  • Candidates who have experience in working with online data management platforms and research facilitation tools.

PREFERRED:

  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Candidates who have experience with online data management platforms.
