"Research Teaching Specialist V, Part Time"

Position Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V works independently on research projects and supports the general functioning of the biomedical research laboratory. The RTS V will investigate how cells are polarized during morphogenetic movements using the model organism C. elegans.

Key Duties:

• As directed, performs various research and technical operations relative to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory. These include performing molecular biology manipulations, assisting with microbial strain maintenance, C. elegans strain maintenance and live imaging studies of C. elegans.
• Responsible for managing accounts, ordering supplies and materials, and keeping inventory of such. Responsible for submitting purchase recommendations to his/her supervisor.
• Participates in the evaluation of existing procedures suggesting revisions where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
• Ensures that laboratory equipment is maintained in good working orders.
• Updates databases. Keeps detailed records of procedures and experiments.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related discipline required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical Demands: Position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel, talk and hear 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise.
