Wheat Breeding Research Technician
Position Overview
The Department of Horticulture and Crop Science at the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) is seeking a Temporary Wheat Breeding Technician to assist in all phases of the wheat breeding program. This role supports the preparation and execution of wheat studies and requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work in both lab and field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Thresh and clean wheat seed
- Label and fill envelopes with seed
- Prepare seed trays for planting
- Follow detailed instructions for seed handling and study preparation
- Work in dusty environments and wheat fields as needed
- Support general operations of the wheat breeding program
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- 1 year of relevant experience in agricultural or laboratory settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Agronomy, preferably with an emphasis in Plant Breeding and Genetics
- Experience working in crop research or breeding programs
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Work Environment
- Field and lab-based work
- May involve repetitive tasks and physical activity in outdoor conditions
