Research Teaching Specialist V
The New Jersey Gun Violence Research Center (GVRC) for the Department of Urban Global Public Health within the Rutgers School of Public Health located in Piscataway, NJ seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on firearm violence causality and prevention, and to translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs. The Center partners with relevant local-, state-, and national-level experts, securing access to data to conduct and support research that identifies etiologic factors for firearm violence, develops and rigorously evaluates interventions to reduce the burden of firearm violence, and translates its scientific findings into effective programs and policies to better ensure their widespread adoption.
The GVRC is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V to assist with a grant-funded project during which GVRC team members will train members of the National Guard throughout the country in the administration of an intervention known as Project SafeGuard (PSG). PSG is a suicide prevention tool that focuses on encouraging secure firearm storage and the GVRC team will be primarily responsible for the quantitative assessments that take place during and following the trainings. This is an ideal position for an individual planning to apply for graduate school and aiming to gain suicide prevention research experience. Opportunities to work with GVRC data, develop peer reviewed manuscripts, and present data at national conferences will be available.
Duties include:
- Attends trainings at military installations across the country, assisting with practical needs related to data collection and the distribution of firearm locking devices.
- Manages RedCap survey to ensure timely administration of surveys to trainees both during and following the trainings.
- Assists with the management of GVRC IRB requirements.
