This new full-time (1.0FTE) post is immediately available on a fixed term basis until 25/08/2027.

The University of Exeter Department of Clinical and Biomedical Science, within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, is world renowned for its diabetes and genetics of disease research. We are looking to appoint a motivated and organised research technician full time to support projects in understanding why genetic changes lead to congenital diseases of the pancreas.

The successful candidate will join the Gene Regulatory Defects in Disease Group (https://owensnick.github.io/) at Exeter, an interdisciplinary team with expertise in molecular biology, genetics, and data science, who are unravelling why certain genetic changes lead to disease. The key purpose of the post is to facilitate and contribute to the differentiation of stem cells to pancreatic islets used in research to understand diseases such as diabetes and hyperinsulinism.

The successful candidate will be primarily involved in the group’s cell culture work across a range of cell lines in addition to the differentiation of stem cell-derived islets. They will also contribute to routine molecular techniques involving DNA and RNA with cells and tissue, and the opportunity to contribute to work involving Oxford Nanopore Technologies long-read sequencing. The successful candidate may also be expected to design and implement new assays under the direction and supervision of appropriate members of staff.
