We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician II to join our lab focused on the human fungal pathogen, Cryptococcus neoformans. The successful candidate will support ongoing research projects in molecular genetics, cell biology, and functional genomics. Responsibilities include yeast strain maintenance, lab operations, and animal work. Candidates must be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Culture, maintain, and genetically manipulate Cryptococcus strains
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction
  • Conduct yeast transformations, growth assays, and phenotypic characterizations
  • Maintain detailed and accurate experimental records
  • Assist in lab maintenance: inventory management, solution preparation, and equipment upkeep
  • Contribute to data analysis and preparation of figures for presentations or publications
  • Participate in lab meetings and collaborate with other lab members
  • Support lab safety compliance under guidance of the key lab safety officer

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Genetics, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology and genetic techniques
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to handle animals

Preferred:

  • Experience working with yeast and mice
  • Familiarity with sterile technique and microbiology practices
  • Experience with software tools for data analysis (e.g., Excel, ImageJ, SnapGene)
