Research Technician

The Alzheimer's Research UK Drug Discovery Institute at University College London (ARUK UDDI) is a member of the Alzheimer’s Research UK funded Dementia Discovery Alliance (DDA) – a highly successful trilogy of institutes (alongside Oxford and Cambridge) translating cutting-edge academic innovations into medicines for patients living with neurodegenerative diseases.

Embedded in the rich translational environment of the UCL Institute of Neurology, the ARUK UDDI is uniquely placed to find novel targets, rapidly validate identified novel targets and mechanisms, establish screens and progress projects from proof of concept to candidate selection.

As a Research Technician at the UDDI, you will join a multidisciplinary team of scientists working on identification and validation of novel and high potential therapeutic targets and later stage compound evaluation to support candidate selection.

You’ll run experiments in vitro to validate potential new therapeutic targets, develop cell-based and cell-free assays suitable for screening small molecule compounds, and run target and phenotypic screening assays. This is a great opportunity to work collaboratively with the wider UDDI team and their network to contribute to a broad spectrum of projects.

The post is available immediately and funded by Alzheimer’s Research UK until 30 April 2026 in the first instance.

If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team (ion.hradmin@ucl.ac.uk).

Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Emma Armstrong (e.armstrong@ucl.ac.uk).

To apply, please upload a current CV, complete the online application form, and use the supporting statement section or upload a cover letter to outline how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for the role. Please do not upload any additional attachments as these will not be considered by the selection panel.

You’ll have a degree in a biological science coupled with experience in cellular and molecular biology technics and across different assay platforms, from cell-based to cell-free. You’ll also have strong problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills and understand and demonstrate the importance of teamworking and working towards common goals.

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer some great benefits; visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/reward-and-benefits to find out more.

As London’s Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world’s talent. 12% of Institute staff are actively working on EDI initiatives; visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/equality-diversity-inclusion for more information about what we’re doing. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL’s workforce; these include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQI+ and gender diverse people in all roles, and women in Grade 9 and 10 roles.
