Researcher in Data Visualization
City St George’s, University of London is seeking to appoint an excellent researcher to work on the Dara project ("Inclusive Data Visualization for Human-Centred Decision-Making"). This project is undertaking studies to address a significant gap in knowledge about how people with language disabilities use data visualization and is using that knowledge to co-design, develop and test new, inclusive approaches to visualization.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues with expertise in HCI, data visualization, aphasia and developmental language disorders.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will undertake research at the intersection of HCI and data visualization. They will create data visualizations using tools in the web/JavaScript ecosystem, primarily Observable Plot. They will participate in co-design activities working with people with communication difficulties to design and explore visualization. They will create methods, software and guidelines for visualization designers to support the creation of more inclusive visualization based on the findings of the project’s studies and co-design activities.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills in human-centred data visualization and well-evidenced research experience. They will have experience in creating data visualizations using a range of platforms, in accessibility, and in qualitative and quantitative research methods. They will have excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills.
