Researcher / Physician-Researcher for PhD Project
Job Summary: The project consists of two parts: collecting and analyzing data on the effectiveness of targeted therapies and advanced computational modeling using databases like UMCG-MTB, PALGA, and IKR; and validating computational 3D protein modeling predictions in experimental lung cancer cell line models through collaboration between UMCG, Faculty of Science and Engineering, and Protion.
Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze clinical and molecular pathological data from PALGA and IKR to determine therapy response in relevant patient cohorts.
- Participate in the UMCG molecular tumor board to investigate clinical and molecular findings for treatment options based on the MTB database.
- Conduct cell-biological experiments with cell culture models to confirm the effectiveness of tyrosine kinase inhibitors on driver and resistance mutations in EGFR-positive lung tumors based on computational modeling results.
- Publish results in scientific journals, present at national and international conferences, and complete the research with a dissertation.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A graduate in (medical) biology or medicine, or an equivalent field.
- Some experience or at least interest in data processing and statistical analyses.
- Interest in cell biological processes and working with cell culture techniques.
- Clear communication skills, enjoyment of collaboration, and comfort in a team environment.
What the Employer Offers:
- A challenging 48-month PhD trajectory in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Guidance from experienced researchers and clinicians.
- Access to unique datasets and advanced research techniques.
- A salary of up to €3,108 gross per month for PhD candidates (or up to €5,669 for physician-researchers), based on full-time employment, plus 8% vacation allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
- An employment contract of 32-36 hours per week, with evaluation after one year to confirm prospects for completing the PhD.
