Essential Job Duties:
The Residence Life Coordinator position is a 12-month, live-in position that provides leadership, supervision, and support to create engaging and educational residential communities. The Residence Life Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring University Housing's ability to implement the department and University mission, vision, and values. The Residence Life Coordinator handles all daily operations within their community.
The Residence Life Coordinator is responsible for the following:
Supervision - 25%
- Directly supervise 1 Graduate Assistant, Residence Life, and cosupervise 10-30 Resident Advisors.
- Select, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate supervisees.
- Create a cohesive team to implement the department's educational vision.
Area Oversight and Partnership - 15%
- Provide leadership to residential community housing between 440- 1210 residents.
- Support and/or assist Village operations within residential community.
- Serve on Village Advisory Councils, if applicable.
Residential Learning and Student Development - 15%
- Cultivate intentional interactions through educational strategies connected to the residential education and engagement model.
- Participate and support department assessment related to the residential experience.
- Promote residential leadership by advising and/or providing guidance and oversight to Residential Council leadership.
- Opportunity may exist to instruct University Housing-related classes, connected with a Village and/or focused on student leadership development.
Crisis and Resident Behavior - 15%
- Utilize the University's Student Conduct process to promote resident learning, accountability, and teach positive community values.
- Respond onsite to emergencies and collaborate with campus partners when appropriate in crisis situations.
- Serve in a professional staff on call rotation for an area of approximately 4,500 residents.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to serve as a liaison and/or resource for residents/staff with concerns, challenges, or crisis; make referrals as necessary.
Facilities Management - 10%
- Ensure communities are well-maintained and safety concerns are addressed.
- Cultivate relationships with Facilities, Housekeeping, staff, and residents to identify and execute facility needs and improvements.
- Responsible for follow-up of building safety inspections, vandalism, state property damage, and facilities assessments.
Open and Welcoming Community - 5%
- Foster a community comprised of various student populations.
- Participate in and encourage staff and resident participation of ongoing training related to supporting the needs of the community.
- Serve as an advocate and role model for staff and residents.
Administration - 10%
- Provide budget oversight for residential community, including budget tracking, monthly reconciliation, Marketplace ordering, and processing receipts.
- Approve timesheets for hourly student staff, when applicable.
- Responsible for supporting Administration and Occupancy Management.
- Complete administrative responsibilities to meet the needs of the department.
Departmental Responsibilities - 5%
- Assist the department in the completion of special projects.
- Assist with departmental recruitment and selection processes.
- Serve as a communication link between University Housing, staff, stakeholders, and residents.
- Provide oversight and assistance during the summer months for departmental operations.
- Serve on University Housing, Division of Academic and Student Affairs, and/or campus partner committees as appropriate and needed.
Other Work/Responsibilities:
- This position is required to handle confidential information appropriately and is bound by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- This position is also a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act as well as reporting responsibilities under Title IX for any crimes of incidents of sex discrimination which they are made aware.
Minimum Experience/Education:
- Bachelor's Degree and two years of related experience
Required Qualifications:
- Experience related to the above described duties
- Strong administrative skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree
- Two or more years of experience related to the above described duties
- Experience in supervision
- Experience in crisis management
Required License or Certification:
- Valid driver's license required
