Respiratory Therapist Instructor/Clinical Education Director (Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty)
Ohlone College is seeking a Respiratory Therapist Instructor/Clinical Education Director for a full-time tenure track faculty position. The role involves teaching respiratory therapy curriculum, providing clinical instruction, and overseeing clinical education experiences under the supervision of the Division Dean.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach assigned courses in the Respiratory Therapist Program using learner-centered methods that emphasize group cooperation, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity.
- Teach respiratory therapy curriculum in accordance with post-secondary level established course outlines.
- Work collaboratively with the program director, advisory board, adjunct faculty, community, and students to evaluate and improve the program curriculum.
- Provide academic advisement to students and serve as a role model through participation in professional organizations and demonstration of exceptional practice skills.
- Develop online courses and enhance skills in educational technology for program benefit.
- Develop curriculum and contribute to department program review processes.
- Provide classroom and clinical instruction, student evaluation, and demonstrate current clinical and theoretical knowledge.
- Provide leadership for the clinical education component, including organization, review, planning, and development.
- Lead in recruiting new clinical faculty and preceptors, maintain current clinical contracts, and pursue new opportunities.
- Identify, recruit, orient, and develop new and existing faculty members.
- Develop agendas and conduct productive meetings for faculty and support staff.
- Analyze administrative problems and develop cost-effective solutions.
- Advise prospective and current students.
- Evaluate student work using clear criteria and provide timely feedback.
- Assist students with assignments by holding required office hours and attending meetings.
- Develop and implement effective teaching and assessment methods, including technology for various learning styles.
- Participate in discipline-specific learning communities.
- Convey a vision for the clinical education program.
- Maintain and submit accurate records such as grades and syllabi.
- Participate in curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and revision, including assessing student learning outcomes.
- Engage in professional development and remain current in the field.
- Carry out collegial responsibilities, including committee assignments and campus activities.
- Understand and address equity gaps, engage in equitable practices, and teach through positive race-consciousness.
- Promote diversity and resolve confrontational situations respectfully.
- Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues on course offerings and programs.
- Perform duties as assigned per Board policy and faculty contract.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A current valid license as a Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner in California.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Minimum of four years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, with at least two years in clinical respiratory care.
- Minimum of two years of teaching experience in an accredited respiratory care program as faculty or clinical preceptor.
- Any bachelor's or master's degree plus two years of professional experience, or an associate degree plus six years of professional experience.
- Commitment to equity, anti-racism, and serving diverse student populations.
- Evidence of responsiveness to diverse student backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Teaching experience in respiratory therapy at the post-secondary level.
- Experience using innovative teaching methods for student engagement.
- Experience creating equitable and inclusive classroom materials.
- Skill in addressing equity issues and working with minoritized students.
- Commitment to participatory governance and team management.
- Experience with computer technology and course management systems.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team.
Salary: $79,803.00 - $163,412.00 Annually
