The Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) is a social science study that has collected economic, social, and demographic data from U.S. adults since 1968. The PSID project is located within the Survey Research Center (SRC) at the Institute for Social Research (ISR). Our central mission is to provide the scientific research community of economists, sociologists, demographers, and other social scientists with accurate data and documentation. PSID includes major supplemental data collections such as the Child Development Supplement (CDS) and the Transition into Adulthood Supplement (TAS). The project is looking for a Survey Specialist Associate to join the Instrument Development and Project Management (IDPM) team who is responsible for implementation of instrument development and coordinating field operations activities with the Survey Research Operations group.
This position will report to the IDPM Team Lead.
- Assist project(s) with all phases of respondent engagement. May be responsible for management, performance, and completion of a small project or phases of a larger project.
- Responsible for respondent payments across projects with PSID, working with the ISR business office and Survey Research Operations on completing the payments.
- Assist in the implementation of data collection services, including mailings, ordering of supplies, and specialized tracking. Assist with basic analysis of data. Assist in the development of training materials for completing respondent payments; assist with training sessions.
- Receive and log respondent address updates; consistency checking; edit and code responses about address updates.
- Communicate professionally with respondents either directly or through published communications.
- Implement quality control procedures; participate in problem identification and resolution during data collection and processing period.
- Assist in testing survey instruments and summarizing testing protocols and results.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One or more years of progressively responsible experience in survey research, project management, or other related area.
- Demonstrated competence in MS Office software and Google Workspace tools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to compose basic instructions, memos, and revise documents and manuals using word processing software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluent in Spanish, including ability to edit written communications.
- Demonstrated knowledge using critical thinking skills in problem solving.
- Experience with testing of technical systems.
- Experience in manipulation of small data sets for simple file creation and presentation in tables.
- Experience using statistical techniques and/or software (e.g., SAS, Excel, etc.).
