The UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation Department provides a full range of parking and transportation services, serving a diverse community of more than 45,000 students and 15,000 faculty and staff in the City of Berkeley, at the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Position Summary

Incumbent will support the Revenue unit for Parking & Transportation and will oversee all credit card processing and deposits for the department. P&T collects over $10 million in revenue with over 95% of the revenue from multiple credit card streams. This position is responsible for ensuring all credit card revenue is collected and deposited correctly while meeting all campus and industry security and cash handling standards.

Responsibilities

  • Applies financial services concepts (i.e., accounting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, collections and billing), to resolve issues, and prepare business process procedures and policy recommendations for all credit card processing in P&T department.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely deposit of all credit card revenue, daily, weekly, and monthly.
  • Completes department's annual PCI compliance requirements established by the campus Controller's Office.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced team members on financial processing functions which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, recharge billing, travel/entertainment, gift accounting, cashiering and collections for all credit card transactions.
  • Applies a wide variety of internal and external policies and regulations to address a range of issues such as regulatory compliance, tax implications, recovery of cash, risk management, and the organized implementation of a diverse range of financial services for students and departments.
  • Assesses and recommends to management changes as needed to ensure financial processes maintain compliance with federal and state requirements and internal financial/audit policies mostly focused on credit card processing.
  • Responsible for providing reports and analyses for varied and complex budgetary, financial and resource projects.
  • Provides analyses for complex summaries and proposals relative to a diverse range of topics to include new financial procedures and/or services, changes in legal regulations, tax implications, and credit card regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures related to credit card processing, reconciliation, and security standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems.
  • Strong proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high-volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
  • Ability to function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting organizational resources, within a university or similar institution.
  • Leadership skills to provide guidance, coaching and mentoring to professional and support staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting degree or certification and/or equivalent experience/training.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted annual salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $74,700.00 - $103,800.00.

  • This is an exempt monthly-paid position.
