Base Salary from $103,185 + 17% superannuation

The Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA) is a co-funded partnership between the University of Sydney, Sydney Local Health District and the NSW Government. From 2028, the SBA will span the University's Camperdown campus and the District's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital campus, offering a unique global concentration of biomedical research talent, facilities and capabilities. The SBA will be positioned to dynamically collaborate with industry and start-ups as part of a world leading hospital, university and tech innovation ecosystem. We are seeking two proactive and detail-oriented SBA Biobank Project Officers who will provide technical and administrative support for projects in the design and establishment of the new facility, equipment, and operational workflows, while also planning the re-location of existing biospecimen collections to the SBA Biobank. You'll also support coordination, implementation/delivery of a broad range of activities and tasks with different stakeholder groups as planning and development for the SBA Biobank progresses. The SBA Biobank Project Officers will contribute technical and hands-on support for project deliverables, and assistance with planning, documentation, and communications to help ensure effective collaboration across the project team. The incumbent will require knowledge of biobank operations and quality management and some experience in biobanking and/or related laboratories/biospecimen collections.

This role may involve occasional travel between University precincts and other locations as required. The successful candidate will be expected to work on site at least three days per week. Hybrid working arrangements will be discussed with your manager if you are successful in this position.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide project support for the SBA Biobank laboratory design, including input into workflows, equipment selection and layout planning to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • assist in tracking and progressing actions from stakeholder meetings, contributing to consultations and decisions throughout the design and implementation phases
  • contribute technical expertise to the development of specimen workflows and standard operating procedures, with a focus on integrating effective information management systems
  • undertake targeted research and analysis to inform decisions around facility design, operational planning and compliance with safety and regulatory standards
  • support the relocation of existing biospecimen collections by coordinating logistics, preparing documentation and ensuring smooth integration into the new biobank infrastructure
  • ensure all laboratory activities, including specimen handling, equipment use and sample transfers, are conducted in line with operational protocols and WHS requirements
  • coordinate stakeholder engagement activities such as site visits, workshops and meetings, while preparing and presenting project data to support planning and reporting.

About you

  • a tertiary qualification in Science/Biomedical Science or relevant field or an equivalent recognised qualification relevant to biobanking, Medical Laboratory Science or relevant speciality
  • knowledge of biobank operations and quality management within research or clinical environments
  • practical experience in biobanking procedures, including the collection, handling, processing and storage of human biospecimens
  • strong computer skills with demonstrated experience in managing biobank-related data (experience with biobanking information systems and REDCap is highly desirable), including proficiency in specimen tracking, data entry, and database configuration
  • a solid understanding of applicable legislation, governance frameworks and regulatory compliance requirements related to biobanking
  • demonstrated experience in administrative tasks, including communication across various formats, meeting coordination, summary and report preparation
  • flexibility and ability to travel between university precincts and associated sites periodically, in line with role requirements.
