Job Description
The University at Albany is accepting applications for the tenure-track faculty position of Scholarly Communication Librarian at the rank of Assistant Librarian or Senior Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian. This position is responsible for developing and executing the advancement of open, equitable, and sustainable scholarly communication strategies at UAlbany. Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Success, the successful candidate leads the University Libraries' suite of scholarly communication services including copyright, author rights, and scholarly publishing. This position advances scholarly communication initiatives by developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders among university and library faculty, staff, and students.
Research, publication, and service to the Libraries, University, and profession are expected to satisfy criteria for continuing appointment (tenure) and promotion.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Advancing the development of scholarly communication initiatives and services that promote open and equitable access to scholarly knowledge, effective sharing, reduce barriers to research, and provide guidance to campus constituencies on authors' rights, publishing options, and copyright issues.
- Providing consultations to faculty and students on publishing options, licensing agreements, the benefits of open access publishing, and rights retention.
- Developing and leading educational programs, workshops, and training sessions for University faculty, students, and staff; creating resources related to scholarly communication, copyright, author rights, and open publishing university.
- Collaborating with other librarians on adoption and integration of scholarly communication including research impact into library services such as instruction and research consultation.
- Creating and executing outreach and programming to promote scholarly communication services and increase awareness of open research publishing and author rights.
- Collaborating with the Scholars Archive (institutional repository) Administrator to help promote the use of and encourage contributions to the repository.
- Identifying and evaluating transformative agreement opportunities in cooperation with the Head of Collection Development and Strategy and Associate University Librarian for Academic Success.
- Offering guidance and compliance assistance with federal, state, and University open access policies and stipulations.
- Improving awareness of persistent identifiers and scholarly identity management.
- Administering and managing University's perma.cc institutional account. Assists in promoting and educating the use of ORCID ID.
- Assessing the effectiveness and impact of scholarly communication services. Use findings to inform service improvements and strategic planning.
- Performing the expected functions of University Libraries academic faculty, including contributing to the profession, Libraries, and University through scholarship and service.

Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program, at a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization, by the time of application. Candidates who do not hold this degree will not be considered.
- One year of experience providing research-centered scholarly communication services, such as scholarly publishing and author rights.
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community
- Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing library instruction or training on scholarly publishing or author rights.
- Experience leading a team or managing a project.
- Experience setting goals and developing strategies.
- Experience building relationships, including communicating and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of current and emerging strategies, trends, and issues in scholarly communication, and/or open access, and/or academic publishing.
- Experience with copyright and intellectual property rights in academic settings.
- Experience working with digital asset management platforms and/or tools utilized for scholarly publishing, institutional repositories, or data management.
- Experience with funder mandates and/or public access policies.
- Conducted citation metric analysis, altmetrics, and/or assigned persistent identifiers (e.g. ORCID iDs).
- Evidence of scholarly or professional engagement (publications, presentations, committee work).

Additional Information:
Professional Rank and Salary Range: Senior Assistant Librarian, N3, Salary commensurate with experience.
