Description
The Oglethorpe University Studio Art Program seeks an adjunct instructor to teach Introduction to Drawing classes during Fall 2024. The studio sections enroll no more than 18 students, so the learning environment is ideal for one-on-one faculty-student interactions. Applicants will be expected to foster an inclusive learning environment by engaging in and promoting diverse teaching, learning, and mentoring communities.
Teaching assignments will be on Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 am – 9:30 am, the second section will be held on Wednesdays from 8:00 am to 11:15 am. Course sections meet 3 hours/week (three 60-minute sessions). Ideal applicants will be available to teach both sections, but those who can teach only one section are invited to apply. The semester runs from August 26 to December 3, with final exams the following week. Final grades for the semester are due on Thursday, December 13.
Oglethorpe is committed to fostering a campus community and intellectual environment that recruits and maintains diverse faculty and staff, promotes a culture of respect for diverse experiences and perspectives, and understands and addresses the role of inequality in shaping our individual and collective identities. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development. Adjunct faculty will be mentored and supported by the Studio Art Program faculty committed to excellence in teaching and fostering a collaborative community.
The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students representing more than 30 states and 30 countries. Over half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color, and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.
Oglethorpe University has entered an era of innovation, reinvigoration, and growth by opening the $16M Turner Lynch Campus Center in 2013 and the $22M Cousins Center for Science and Innovation in 2019. Renowned for its groundbreaking Core program, Oglethorpe is a member of the Annapolis Group, comprised of the nation’s most selective liberal arts institutions, and has been named among U.S. News & World Report’s Best Liberal Arts Colleges, Forbes’ America’s Best Colleges, and Princeton Review’s Best Southeastern Colleges.
