Position Description

Primary Purpose and Essential Functions

The Department of Psychology in the College of the Pacific at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2025. The Department specializes in Health-Related and Applied areas of Psychology and is looking for faculty whose expertise will both complement and expand those of current faculty. We are especially interested in candidates with demonstrated expertise in the conceptual and experimental (basic or applied) foundations of behavior analysis. Potential applied specialty areas include, but are not restricted to, health and wellness, public health, aging, organizational behavior management, behavior therapies, education, developmental/intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and severe problem behavior.

The primary responsibilities include: Teaching four courses per academic year; mentoring and advising undergraduate and graduate students; engaging in scholarly activity; publishing in academic and professional journals and presenting at academic and professional conferences; and serving on departmental, college, and University committees.

The successful candidate will teach courses within general education, including introduction to psychology and the College’s first-year seminar program, as well as research methods and upper-division lab courses within their area of expertise. Our faculty are dedicated teachers, mentors, and advisors who develop innovative pedagogies to enhance student learning in addition to engaging actively in scholarship and service. We are excited to welcome new colleagues who are eager to be part of our vibrant academic community and to contribute to the College’s growth and development.

The Department of Psychology consists of eight full-time faculty that provide coursework in theoretical and research foundations of psychology, with intensive student involvement in research and applied experiences. Psychology is one of the largest majors in the University, with close to 200 undergraduate majors. The Department also houses a master’s degree program focused on Behavior Analysis and on doctoral preparation for Ph.D. programs in behavioral clinical psychology and behavior analysis. The graduate course sequence is verified by the Association for Behavior Analysis, International. Candidates would be expected to contribute to both the graduate and undergraduate programs.

University of the Pacific recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion is foundational to the success of our valued students and employees. We prioritize policy and decision-making that demonstrates awareness of, and responsiveness to, the ways socio-cultural forces related to race, gender, ability, sexuality, socio-economic status, etc. impede or propel students, faculty, and staff.

Review of applications will begin September 9, 2024.
