Senate Secretary

Job Description:

• Provide high-level strategic governance and secretariat support to the UWA Senate and Senate Committees.
• Responsible for the strategic coordination of Senate meetings and the production of high-quality governance documentation.
• Full-time (1.0 FTE) appointment on an ongoing basis.
• Base salary range: $160,962 - $167,203 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The University Secretariat, part of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Operations), oversees and coordinates UWA’s corporate and academic governance structures, providing confidential, reliable and comprehensive secretariat, advisory and consultative services to the Senate, its committees, the Chancellor, the University Executive and the Academic Board, ensuring integrity, compliance and consistency across the University’s governance and legislative framework

About the opportunity

• Provide high-level strategic advice on governance legislation, statutes, regulations and policy matters to support the Senate and senior governance bodies.
• Lead and manage practices, processes and systems that underpin Senate governance structures and committee operations.
• Oversee the quality, integration and compliance of executive governance systems, including the management of confidential and sensitive matters.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent experience in corporate governance, policy, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience delivering strategic policy and corporate governance advice within a university or comparable setting.
• Strong capability in operating within complex legislative and regulatory frameworks in the tertiary education sector.
• Proven ability to manage confidential, sensitive and complex governance matters with sound analytical and organisational capability.
• Advanced communication, interpersonal and negotiation capability, with demonstrated experience leading teams, projects and senior committees.
