Position Summary

The University Advancement (UA) team at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking individual to join Advancement Communications as the Senior Associate Director of Digital Strategy. Advancement Communications’ mission is to inspire lifelong engagement and philanthropy through strategic, creative communications in collaboration with advancement and university partners.

This person in this role will join a five-person digital strategy team within Advancement Communications and provide expertise and oversight of Advancement’s email marketing tool: Salesforce Marketing Cloud. This position manages ongoing staff training in Marketing Cloud, serves as one of two technical MC leads for the digital strategy team, and proactively develops creative solutions and new business processes that advance centralized management of email campaign design and deployment. This position will also build custom email campaigns and templates that engage WashU alumni, parents, and donors.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Help manage centralized marketing email oversight; serve on the front lines of technical SFMC troubleshooting with UA users; assist with new SFMC features; help develop SFMC engagement reports to measure results and support list hygiene.
  • Build SFMC emails (custom and templated), manage approval process, and schedule deployment; collaborate with UA partners from concept to deployment to ensure best practices and brand alignment.
  • Develop training documentation for SFMC email builders/users; produce documentation for new Marketing Cloud features; help enforce best practices and university brand/style alignment; monitor ongoing template and design needs.
  • Analyze email engagement across departments and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop automations and journeys to streamline communication with specific audience segments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for broadcast email (accessibility standards, mobile optimization, A/B testing, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of the importance of a cohesive and consistent visual brand identity.
  • Prior experience in a higher education or non-profit (especially advancement) communications environment.

This position is located in St. Louis, MO and the targeted hiring range for this position is $75,200 - $95,000.

Salary Range
$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
