About UNSW:

UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re one of the top 20 universities in the world (QS top 20) and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

The unique role will provide dedicated senior business analysis capability to support the Deputy CIO’s operational and delivery accountabilities, with a strong focus on initiatives that cut across multiple directorates. It will coordinate and synthesise inputs from across technology, operations, and business areas to ensure priorities are aligned, dependencies are understood, and impacts are assessed early.

This role will reduce fragmentation particularly with complex initiatives that do not sit neatly within a single team. It will also absorb the background analysis, options development, planning, and follow up work that underpins effective cross directorate decision making but is frequently deprioritised due to executive workload pressures.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Lead end-to-end business analysis activities across complex or enterprise-level initiatives, from problem identification and business case development through to solution design, testing support, and post-implementation review.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders to identify strategic requirements, assess impacts, and align business and technology outcomes with UNSW's strategic objectives.
  • Design and document “as-is” and “to-be” business processes and solution models that span multiple systems, data domains, and functional units.
  • Develop or contribute to the development of business cases, feasibility studies, and options analysis to inform decision-making and prioritisation.
  • Define and recommend appropriate business analysis approaches, toolsets, and deliverables for major projects or programs, ensuring alignment with University standards.
  • Guide and mentor other business analysts across workstreams to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with enterprise architecture and project objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with solution architects, developers, data and integration teams, and testers to ensure solutions meet both business needs and technical constraints.
  • Engage in and support enterprise testing, including defining test cases, user acceptance testing, and validation of deliverables against business requirements.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of relevant University systems, data models, processes, and interdependencies to advise on enterprise impacts.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of institutional business analysis standards, documentation templates, and quality assurance practices.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values
  • Ensure hazards and risks psychosocial and physical are identified and controlled for tasks, projects, and activities that pose a health and safety risk within your area of responsibility.

Who you are:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Significant experience (typically 5+ years) as a business analyst in large, complex organisations, with demonstrated ability to lead strategic and enterprise-scale initiatives.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively within structured and agile delivery environments (e.g. Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
  • High-level expertise in business analysis techniques and tools, including process mapping, data analysis, requirements elicitation, solution evaluation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases, contributing to procurement or vendor selection processes, and supporting implementation of enterprise platforms.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex interdependencies and develop practical solutions.
  • Outstanding communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills, with experience working with diverse stakeholder groups including executive sponsors, technical teams, and end users.
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding, mentoring, or reviewing the work of other analysts within or across teams.
  • Familiarity with enterprise systems, data governance, CRM, ERP, or integration platforms is desirable
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
