(Senior) Compensation & HR Data Analyst

The Compensation & HR Data Analyst (or Senior Analyst, depending on experience) supports Boston College's Human Resources initiatives through workforce analytics, compensation program administration, and data-driven insights. The role combines HR data analysis, dashboard development, compensation research, salary survey participation, and advisory support for HR liaisons, managers, and recruiters.

The Analyst/Senior Analyst gathers and interprets complex HR data, develops reporting capabilities in partnership with HRIT and ITS, and ensures alignment with policies, practices, and legal requirements. The Senior Analyst is the subject matter expert on compensation matters, leads advanced analytics projects, and provides higher-level consultation to HR leadership on compensation strategy and workforce trends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Compensation Analysis - 75% (All Levels)

  • Support the implementation and administration of compensation programs and policies.
  • Conduct market analyses, job evaluations, and reclassification assessments; prepare recommendations based on compensation principles and best practices.
  • Provide counsel to HR liaisons, recruiters, and managers regarding compensation actions and employment offers.
  • Assist in the annual merit review program, including data validation, reporting, trend analysis, and effectiveness evaluation.
  • Participate in annual salary surveys (CUPA, EDUCOMP, TSG, ACJU, etc.) and respond to survey requests within confidentiality parameters.
  • Design and administer ad hoc internal surveys as needed.
  • Analyze Boston College salaries against market survey results and produce reports.
  • Support special studies involving job analysis, job evaluation, and compensation structure review.
  • Serve as an internal source for HR Liaisons, recruiters, and managers across the University.

Senior Compensation Analyst additional responsibilities:

  • Lead compensation studies with broader scope or higher complexity.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on compensation strategy, job architecture, and pay competitiveness.
  • Provide expert consultation on sensitive or complex compensation issues.
  • Lead large-scale or cross-departmental compensation projects.

HR Data Analytics - 25% (All Levels)

  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative HR data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance HR metrics and dashboards for workforce planning, demographics, turnover, compensation, and benefits utilization.
  • Work with HRIT and ITS to develop and expand standard reporting capabilities.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and compliance with HR policies, data governance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Present findings through written reports, visual dashboards, and oral presentations to HR and University stakeholders.
  • Produce annual and longitudinal workforce reports.

Senior HR Data Analyst additional responsibilities:

  • Lead complex data analysis initiatives including forecasting, modeling, and long-term trend analysis.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to HR leadership.
  • Design improved methodologies for reporting and analytics across HR.

Title and Salary

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and full-time equivalent hiring ranges:

  • Sr. Compensation Analyst: $90,300 - $112,900; 5+ years related professional experience
  • Compensation Analyst: $74,200 - $92,750; 3-5 years related professional experience
  • Compensation Analyst: $65,550 - $81,950; 1-3 years experience

Requirements

Education / Training

Bachelor's degree required.
Advanced degree in Higher Education, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or related field preferred.
Working knowledge of Peoplesoft, Tableau and Qualtrics

Experience

Associate Compensation & HR Analyst: 1-3 years experience
Compensation & HR Data Analyst: 3 years professional experience in salary administration and/or HR analytics.
