Job Description:

The Senior Director of Enterprise Applications is a strategic leadership role for a collaborative, forward-thinking IT professional who is energized by building systems that enable people to do their best work. This position offers the opportunity to lead a talented team responsible for the University's most critical administrative and enterprise systems/platforms that underpin everything from student services and finance to institutional operations and data-informed decision-making.

Working closely with IT leadership and partners across the University, the Senior Director of Enterprise Applications serves as a trusted advisor, systems strategist, and people-focused leader. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys translating institutional priorities into thoughtful technology solutions, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and cultivating a high-performing team culture grounded in service, reliability, and continuous improvement.

BASIC FUNCTION:

The Senior Director of Enterprise Applications leads a dynamic team responsible for supporting and advancing our campus Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) system as well as the maintenance, management, and implementation of related core administrative and operational systems across the University. The Senior Director, along with the Associate Director of Enterprise Applications, are responsible for supervision and development of their team to deliver quality core services, enhance current systems, and implement new technologies. Additionally, the Senior Director, in tandem with the Executive Director of IT, serves as a thought leader and strong communicator across University business units and senior administration, actively building, sustaining, and advancing a cohesive software technology ecosystem aligned with institutional priorities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct and support the Enterprise Applications team in planning for and achieving University and departmental goals and objectives, ensuring work is aligned with individual roles and responsibilities.
  • Lead and mentor all staff under Enterprise Applications, in unison with the Associate Director of Enterprise Applications, providing guidance and professional development, fostering a collaborative, high performing team.
  • Liaise with University stakeholders in planning the use of technology for administrative purposes in accordance with the strategic direction and mission of the University.
  • Analyze existing applications and procedures to address continuous improvement opportunities, including interfaces, reports, workflow management, and automation.
  • Coordinate the review, testing, communication, and timeliness of upgrades of administrative systems.
  • Lead and support the team in the management of our University ID Card solution and related card system hardware.
  • Lead the team in the development of technical and client documentation of enterprise related systems.
  • Develop and maintain a team culture of providing training, documentation, and daily operational support to administrative system users.
  • Determine staffing and vendor support requirements to accomplish approved Information Technology goals and objectives in conformance with the University's strategic direction and mission statement. The systems and applications supported by the Enterprise Applications team provide critical services requiring the Senior Director to have the team and contracted vendors provide reliable and dependable service during key times of the University calendar.
  • Manage the annual operating budget assigned to the Enterprise Applications team. Review, negotiate, and adjust enterprise contracts, alongside the Executive Director of IT, to meet our University's changing needs.
  • Serve as a member and active contributor of the Office of Information Technology Leadership Team.
  • Partner with IT leadership team members to develop and deliver coordinated solutions to the University community through clear, well-aligned rollouts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with external consultants or contractors, as required, to attain optimal solutions for administrative systems integration within the University.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops, as appropriate, to maintain required management and technical skills. The willingness to travel to the occasional training event or conference is valued.
  • Stay current with changes and innovations occurring in IT and higher education, particularly related to enterprise systems. Analyze and determine where new solutions could add value, improve efficiency, or lower operational costs. Make recommendations when appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties that may be assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is eligible for up to two days remote work per week.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field or equivalent working knowledge.
  • A minimum of five years of work experience in an enterprise applications related position.
  • At least three years of experience effectively supervising and leading IT professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with administrative users, Information Technology staff members, and outside consultants.
  • Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills are required.
  • The ability to work effectively as a team leader, team member or as an independent contributor.
  • Experience in implementing a variety of enterprise systems applications, particularly in a university setting, is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to learn, a variety of enterprise system technologies that are used throughout the University.
  • Experience of database concepts and technologies such as client/server, relational database theory, and SQL statements. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is desirable.
  • Understanding of various methods to integrate systems such as flat file automations (CSV, XML, JSON) and/or leveraging vendor APIs with iPaaS solutions.
  • Perform duties with professionalism that include relating to others in a courteous, cooperative, sensitive, and congenial manner. Maintain the confidentiality of all department and University information.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Information Systems Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Five plus years of work experience in an enterprise applications related position.
  • Three plus years of experience effectively supervising and leading IT professionals
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague and related systems is preferred.
  • Experience with Touchnet OneCard ID card solution.
  • Ability to understand SQL and support team members in the writing of SQL queries.
  • Experience writing data integrations between systems to help train team members.
  • Experience with either waterfall or agile project management methodologies in the implementation of large projects.
