Your Role on the Team
Under general direction of the Finance & Operations Director, the incumbent serves as the fiscal administrator for the Institute by providing financial management and high-level analytical support and develops comprehensive fiscal recommendations that impact the operation of the Institute. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Specific responsibilities include financial analysis and reporting on all account-funds (restricted and unrestricted), budgeting, projections, and fiscal close functions. Maintains financial stability of all contracts-grants, endowment, foundation, and unrestricted funds in compliance with University policies, procedures and guidelines related to purchasing, travel expense reimbursement, and personnel and payroll management. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Position independently develops and implements accounting and data management systems to support the operation of the Institute and is relied upon to provide high-level analysis and recommendations to department leadership as well as an on-going interaction with all levels of university and agency faculty and staff. Coordinates the fiscal closing process, insuring solvency of department funding sources.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required:
- Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems.
- Ability to independently gather required information to organize and perform financial analysis assignments.
- Proven ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Proven ability using spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all organizational levels.
- Proficiency using computerized information systems to gather awards, personnel and expenditure data from online sources.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- 3-5 years financial budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and reporting within a complex organization.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in finance related field.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of NIH policies governing the conduct of research.
- Knowledge of campus, University, State, and Federal financial policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience with UC accounting, contract and grant award management, purchasing, and equipment management policies, procedures and practices.
- Advanced knowledge and experience using the campus financial systems including KFS, DSS, Data Warehouse, and PI reports for research and reporting purposes.
- Working knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and good business practices.
Special Conditions:
- May require some evening hours and/or overtime.
- May require travel between various offices and clinics in Orange and Irvine campuses.
