Senior Financial and Budget Analyst

The Department of Medicine Infectious Disease Clinical Division of the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine (SOM) is recruiting for a Senior Financial & Budget Analyst responsible for performing and supporting financial operations, budgeting, and reporting for the DOM Infectious Disease clinical department and Institute of Human Virology Clinical Division.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain detailed and comprehensive spreadsheets for the DOM ID Practice, Shared Service and faculty groups. Budgets include: DOM/IHV institutional awards, grants and contracts, departmental funds (Deans, DRIF, PSC, Split Funded, revolving accounts), and UMB and UMMS Foundation accounts.
  • Prepare, and distribute accurate, concise, well-organized, and timely financial reports, presentations, and financial information which may include financial charts, forecasting, and budget vs. actual variance analysis with principal investigators.
  • Work within tight deadlines to analyze budget and financial data and report budget and financial forecasts for areas such as salaries, fringe benefits, indirect cost recoveries, revolving funds, internal awards and other areas as needed.
  • Collaborate with department leadership on annual finance plans and budget preparation/percentage performed. Maintain and manage budget archive and financial data files that can quickly be accessed and manipulated to generate the needed financial information.
  • Serve as financial and budgetary resource in HRMS and Quantum/percentage performed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or business-related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, auditing, data management, or data analysis with two (2) years of experience in financial analysis, management accounting, budgeting, or auditing. Prior experience with research and/or sponsored programs in an educational environment is preferred.

Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Knowledge of position requirements. Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Ability to demonstrate, understand, apply, and adhere to the UMB Core Values of Respect and Integrity, Well-being and Sustainability, Equity and Justice, and Innovation and Discovery.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Experience managing Federal, State, and private grants/contracts
  2. Strategic and analytical thinking skills with an ability to solve problems and make decision
  3. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts
  4. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently.
  5. Extensive knowledge of Oracle Quantum system.

Hiring Range: $79,000 - $87,000, Commensurate with education and experience
