Why Your Role Matters

The Senior Functional Business Analyst (internally called Senior Business Systems Specialist -Projects) plays a key role in delivering student systems transformation and enhancement initiatives. You’ll lead the analysis, design, and configuration of systems that support the student lifecycle—helping improve both student and staff experiences.

Working across the project lifecycle, you’ll collaborate with project managers, developers, testers, and business stakeholders to turn strategic goals into practical, high-quality solutions. You’ll also bring valuable expertise in (ideally) student administration and system integration to ensure outcomes are fit-for-purpose and future-focused.

The role reports to the Manager, Student Systems (Projects) and may have a direct report. Responsibilities include:

  • Lead business analysis and system design across a portfolio of student systems projects and enhancements
  • Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements, translating them into functional specifications, data models, and system configurations that meet user and compliance needs
  • Design business processes and collaborate with stakeholders and technical teams to support solution delivery and integration
  • Configure, or support configuration of, student systems, ensuring changes are tested, documented, and aligned with requirements
  • Conduct gap analyses and contribute to option assessments, business cases, and impact assessments
  • Support delivery activities including user acceptance testing (UAT), training development, and go-live readiness
  • Act as a key liaison between business and technical teams, providing advice on system capabilities and fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant technologies, policies, and regulatory requirements, and support continuous improvement and mentoring of junior business analysts

About You

You’re someone who feels connected to UNSW’s values and mission—a collaborative team player and confident communicator who enjoys working at the intersection of business and technology. You’re comfortable in complex environments and thrive on turning ideas into practical, user-focused solutions. You bring:

  • Previous experience as a functional Business Analyst
  • Experience analysing and delivering business system changes in complex organisations, ideally in the higher education sector
  • Understanding of student lifecycle processes and supporting systems
  • Proven ability to translate business needs into effective system designs and solutions
  • Experience with requirements gathering, process mapping, and clear documentation
  • Exposure to project delivery environments (Agile or hybrid preferred)
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and a focus on continuous improvement
  • Experience with student systems (e.g. Technology One, Callista, SITS, Ellucian Banner) and/or integrations, reporting, or data frameworks would be ideal
  • Experience contributing to large-scale transformation or process improvement initiatives

This is a full-time, hybrid role working Monday to Friday. The position is full time permanent. Candidates will need to have valid working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship.
