The Finance Division is at the heart of the University's operations, managing resources and mitigating financial risk to enable world-class teaching and research. Within this division, the Insurance Section plays a critical role in protecting the University's tangible and non-tangible assets and reputation through expert risk management and innovative insurance solutions.

You'll interact with departments across the University, negotiate with insurers and brokers, and provide expert advice on complex insurance matters. The Role
As Senior Insurance and Mutual Advisor, you'll join a small, expert team where your decisions matter. You'll be challenged by complex insurance arrangements, negotiate claims, and provide strategic advice across a diverse academic and operational landscape. What makes this role unique? You'll help drive the development of Cambridge Mutual Limited, an innovative in-house risk transfer solution, giving you exposure to governance, board-level reporting, and financial planning.

Your Skills
What We're Looking For
- You're a clear communicator, capable of building trust and influencing outcomes at all levels, from departmental staff to board members.
- Have insurance expertise: strong knowledge of insurance terminology, policy interpretation, and risk management practices, including compliance with the Insurance Act 2015.
- Team Collaboration: Enjoys working as part of a close-knit specialist team while building strong relationships across the wider University.
- Negotiation & Communication: Ability to negotiate confidently with insurers, brokers, and loss adjusters, and explain complex insurance concepts clearly to non-specialists.
- Analytical & Organisational Skills: Skilled in analysing data, managing budgets, and prioritising a diverse workload with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Technical Competence: Comfortable with electronic record-keeping, financial reporting, and using tools like Excel, Word, and Outlook as well as SharePoint.
- Professionalism & Discretion: Proven ability to handle confidential information and manage sensitive queries with tact and integrity.
- Qualifications: GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C or above) and ideally a Chartered Insurance Institute Certificate (or willingness to work towards it).

Location
The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.
