Senior Insurance and Travel Officer
About This Opportunity
The University of Queensland is seeking a motivated Senior Insurance and Travel Officer to join our Governance and Risk Division.
In this role, you will be a key member of UQ’s Travel and Insurance team, providing trusted advice and high-quality support across both insurance and travel operations. You will take ownership of travel insurance claims, enquiries, and certificate of currency requests, while also delivering professional administrative and business advisory support to UQ Travel.
Beyond day-to-day operations, you will play an important role in driving continuous improvement, contributing to projects and process enhancements that strengthen insurance and travel services across the University. Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the management of travel insurance claims, enquiries, certificate of currency requests, and delivery of travel insurance advice and presentations.
- Provide guidance on UQ travel processes, policies, systems, and emergency assistance, supporting day-to-day travel operations.
- Support insurance and travel operations through process improvement initiatives, operational activities, reporting, and executive-level deliverables.
- Develop and maintain insurance and travel communications, reporting, websites, and strong stakeholder relationships to support UQ’s strategic travel and insurance priorities.
This position will have dual reporting lines to the Senior Manager, University Travel (0.4 FTE) and the Associate Director, Insurance Services (0.6 FTE).

About You
- A degree with subsequent relevant experience, or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Sound knowledge of insurance practice and procedures.
- Strong organisational and planning skills, including proven experience in managing continuous improvement projects and initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to manage constructive and collaborative working relationships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to communicate effectively by telephone and email.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to develop, implement and review processes, procedures and strategies in a complex organisational environment.
- Ability to prioritise and manage own workload, work independently and consistently meet deadlines.
- Technical proficiency with desktop computer software, in particular use of spreadsheets.
- Experience working in a higher education provider or comparable complex environment is desirable.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, conduct concerning gender-based violence.
