Clinical School Computing Services (CSCS) is recruiting a Senior IT Project & Programme Manager. CSCS is a specialist IT division of 40 staff, supporting the medical researchers, educators and professional service teams of the School of Clinical Medicine, which is both the largest School within the University of Cambridge and a part of the growing Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
As CSCS Senior IT Project & Programme Manager you will work directly with the Head of Department and our specialist technical teams and other professional services groups to deliver IT solutions for strategic Clinical School projects, ranging in nature from technology adoptions to the development of new buildings for emerging medical institutions, often involving significant budgets. In the last five years we have delivered IT for flagship initiatives such as the Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre, Heart Lung Research Institute a unique initiative in collaboration with Papworth Hospital with an IT budget of £1.6m and the recently refurbished Early Cancer Institute.
You will report to the Head of Department and be a key member of the CSCS Management Team, setting project management strategy for CSCS and working with managers on adoption of procedures within their teams. Apart from managing projects and programmes you will also be responsible for defining the CSCS portfolio of projects and programmes from idea intake, prioritisation, through the project lifecycle to a formal closure.
You will manage and be assisted by a Project Co-ordinator, together forming our Project Management Team. CSCS operates on a cost recovery model, so that opportunities for project funding can be used to add additional roles to the team (e.g. Business Analyst, Junior PM, etc.). You will supervise technical staff assigned to your projects and liaise with their line manager as needed.
Examples of current and upcoming projects at CSCS:
- Provision of IT research infrastructure in the Cambridge Children's Hospital and Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, in partnership with the Hospital IT Teams.
- Projects stemming from forthcoming Digital Strategy Initiative
- Implementation of Systems Management Policy and Acceptable Use Policy
- Development and roll out of the enhanced Virtual Learning Environment for the Clinical School
- Multiple IT service migration projects
Most projects are technical in nature, though you are not expected to be technical yourself, some understanding of IT project management fundamentals is desirable.
Experience with agile project and portfolio management tools such as Jira, Confluence, Jira Product Discovery etc. and related professional knowledge and certifications is advantageous, as is a proven ability to choose the right methodology for the project at hand. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be representing the University and CSCS to a wide variety of stakeholders, as well as producing reports for and advising Project Boards.
This is a permanent role that requires onsite presence at the School of Clinical Medicine for a minimum of 3 days a week.
