The School of Arts and Humanities
The School of Arts and Humanities (SAH) is one of the largest at ECU with many diverse academic disciplines arranged into three main clusters: Creative Humanities; Psychology, Counselling, and Criminology; and Social Sciences, Social Work, and Youth Work. The School operates across four campuses, with more than 100 academic and professional staff, and has a strong online education presence. The diversity of the School is a strength, enabling interdisciplinary innovation, a sustainable financial platform, and many opportunities for collaborations with industry and community. In 2026, the school will begin to operate its Creative Humanities program from our new ECU City Campus while maintaining and expanding operations at the Joondalup and South-West (regional) campuses and building our program at the newly opened ECU Sri Lanka campus.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a passionate psychology educator with great psychology skills to teach in classroom settings student and the ability for clinical supervision to continue ECU’s great reputation for producing outstanding psychology graduates. As a teaching staff member you will have primary responsibility to work with an amazing team of psychology educators in delivering our professional and clinical psychology programs, you may also be engaged in the supervision of students. We value your own commitment to maintaining a psychological practice with a fractional appointment available via negotiation to ensure the best fit between your needs and ours. Depending on the applications received there may be more than one part-time appointment available.
You will mainly be contributing to the teaching of our postgraduate psychology students in preparatory classes at our Joondalup Campus. You may also be undertaking placements Psychological Service Centre (PSC) housed in ECU Wellbeing Service Centres (Wanneroo and Yanchep). You will have close working relationships to the course coordinators of our various psychology postgraduate degrees, Director, PSC and the School’s Work-Integrated Learning team who support placement operations. You can expect a positive collegial work environment and should be a great team player who is able to balance the needs of individual students, colleagues, and yourself within a university context that embraces links with industry and community. We see this role as providing career opportunities to develop a more senior academic role with a focus on clinical education in the years ahead.
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet current registration as a Psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia with an Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology with no conditions, undertakings, or reprimands; have current Psychology Board of Australia Approved Supervisor Status, with approval to supervise provisional psychologists during an accredited higher degree program; and recent experience in supervising provisionally registered psychologists.
You will need to demonstrate, based on past achievement and potential for future development, that you can:
- supervise effectively for the clinical and professional training of psychologists;
- teach with a student-centred approach that facilitates successful learning;
- engage with industry and community to achieve excellence in clinical education;
- develop and implement innovations that improve clinical psychology education;
- exercise scholarly leadership consistent with your level of appointment; and
- work productively and collegially to achieve the goals of the school and university.
It is desirable, but not essential, that you also have either a Doctor of Philosophy or a Doctor of Psychology qualification.
You will be expected to demonstrate personal attributes congruent with the University’s values of integrity, respect, rational inquiry, personal excellence, and courage.
