Curtin University is seeking an experienced Medical Practitioner and educator to join Curtin Medical School as Senior Lecturer and Year 5 Coordinator. This is a unique opportunity to play a strategic leadership role in shaping the final year of Western Australia’s only undergraduate-entry medical degree.
This part-time position is ideal for an experienced clinician–educator looking to combine academic leadership with ongoing clinical, or professional commitments.
Your new role
As Year 5 Coordinator, you will lead the delivery and ongoing development of the Year 5 curriculum, working collaboratively with clinical and academic colleagues across Curtin Medical School. You will play a key role in ensuring students are well prepared for the transition from medical school to clinical practice.
In this role you will:
- Provide academic leadership across the clinical years in collaboration with Clinical Deans, hospital placement officers, year coordinators, domain and specialty leads, teaching and support staff and the year 5 team.
- Develop, deliver and revise teaching activities, including simulations and inter-professional activities.
- Develop, maintain and review the curriculum in collaboration with domain and specialty leads.
- Ensure learning materials and activities are contemporary, inclusive, and meet the learning needs of the student cohort.
- Design and contribute to formative and summative assessments.
- Deliver and review Year 5 workplace-based activities.
- Contribute to the teaching and learning experiences and assessments for other year levels as directed.
- Provide excellent and timely student support and deliver support programmes for written and OSCE exams.
About you
You are a respected medical practitioner and clinician-educator who is passionate about developing the next generation of doctors. You bring strong leadership capability, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and community-focused healthcare.
Essential criteria:
- Medical degree with current unrestricted AHPRA registration
- PhD or Clinical Fellowship qualifications are highly desirable.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a reflective and innovative approach.
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience, with exposure to curriculum development or educational initiatives
- Knowledge of pedagogical theories and contemporary educational practices.
- Experience in curriculum development and leadership in educational initiatives.
- Demonstrated commitment to pastoral care of students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cross-cultural interactions.
Role Requirements
As this is a continuing contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
