Senior Preclinical Assistant
About This Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Preclinical Assistant to support the effective delivery of teaching and learning within the School’s Preclinical laboratories.
Reporting to the Preclinical Coordinator, this role provides high-level administrative support, dental assisting expertise, and organisational and technical assistance to teaching staff. You will work collaboratively with academic and professional colleagues to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality learning environment that supports an optimal student experience.
Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Coordinate and prepare learning resources, instruments, and equipment for preclinical sessions, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and ensuring compliance, including safe sharps disposal.
- Coordinate local inductions and WH&S training, assist with annual WH&S presentations for students, conduct safety audits, test emergency equipment, inspect first aid kits, and maintain accurate compliance records for audit purposes.
- Log and monitor building, facilities, and IT service requests; manage ordering, invoicing, and receipting; and liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes, product information, and manage returns.
- Support oversight of activities across the preclinical space, assist with event and activity planning, and contribute to the development and review of guidelines, processes, risk assessments, and standard operating procedures
About You
- Completion of Certificate III in Dental Assisting or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training, with a basic understanding of CAD/CAM equipment and associated dental software, including a foundational level of skill in intra-oral scanning.
- The ability to work both independently with limited supervision and within a team, exercising initiative, judgment, discretion, and sensitivity in a dynamic environment.
- Experience training or mentoring staff.
- High attention to detail with proven accuracy in record keeping.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines.
- A strong commitment to WH&S policies and procedures, with a proactive approach to ensuring compliance
Appointment to this role is subject to the successful completion of relevant pre-employment checks, which may include verification of the right to work in Australia and qualifications, This may also include checks relating to gender-based violence matters or other integrity and conduct requirements.
Appointees must have the ability to obtain a Blue Card if necessary. Appointees must not seek to take periods of leave during teaching semesters. Urgent and necessary leave during this time is assessed and approved on a case- by-case basis. Appointees must be immunised according to the immunisation schedule.

Salary
Full-time, permanent position based at the Herston Campus
Base salary will be in the range $83k – $93k + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 5)
