Senior Research Associate - Neuroscience & Regenerative Medicine
Job Summary
A training position designed to learn through engagement at an advanced level of scientific technical work in support of research efforts focused on molecular, cellular, and electrophysiological aspects of mouse taste bud regeneration. Participate in research data collection and documentation within relevant guidelines and protocols; develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures; publish results in scientific journals. Perform a variety of complex chemical, biological, cytologic, microscopic, histologic, surgical, statistical/computational and dissection procedures.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Project Planning: Participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines. Perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and neurophysiological experiments. Techniques include, but are not limited to, use of transgenic mouse models, in vivo nerve recording, mouse surgery, qRT-PCR, immunofluorescence, and confocal imaging.
Data Collection and Analysis: Analyze results of experiments and procedures using manual or computer techniques and, if necessary, develop special computer programs to facilitate analysis.
Compose Articles: Compose articles for publication in scientific journals; review articles prepared by others.
Advise Personnel: Advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures and other technological aspects of research activities.
Scientific Literature: Coordinate and participate in research of scientific literature; summarize and evaluate findings; develop derivative applications of techniques developed by own research activities or reported by other research projects. Presents findings at scientific meetings locally, nationally, and internationally.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and two years of experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory, particularly clinical trial research; OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned with a minimum of five years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary: $48,800 annually.
Pay Band: B9.
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
