An exciting opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Senior Research Associate to join the EPSRC-funded project “RamVis: Spatial Raman Spectroscopy Enhanced with Sub-cellular Visualization Contrast to Monitor Disease-specific Localized Native Biosignatures” within the School of Medicine, Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Portsmouth.

This project aims to develop a novel label-free Raman framework that integrates Raman spectroscopy with advanced imaging strategies to enable detailed analysis of native biomolecules within cells in three dimensions. The research will focus on uncovering disease-specific molecular processes, with particular relevance to cancer.

The post holder will work in a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of spectroscopy, cellular imaging, nanomaterials, and data science, contributing to the development of next-generation tools for disease understanding, diagnostics, and drug response analysis.

The successful candidate will be a motivated and independent researcher, and should have, or expect to obtain, a PhD (or equivalent) in chemistry, biomedical sciences or a related field. Essential experience includes Raman spectroscopy, optical imaging, alongside strong spectral data analysis skills. Experience in nanomaterial synthesis, surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), and Raman imaging of cells is highly desirable. Familiarity with high-dimensional data analysis and machine learning methods is advantageous, as well as prior experience working with biological systems such as cell culture or disease models.
