Senior Research Communications Officer
Job Description:

- Base salary range: $116,262 – $127,078 p.a. plus 17% superannuation.
About the area
The Resilient Landscapes Hub sits within the School for Agriculture and Environment at The University of Western Australia (UWA) and is one of four research Hubs under the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program (NESP). With over 50 projects around Australia, The Hub provides new knowledge to support resilient, sustainable and productive management of Australia’s terrestrial and freshwater habitats. The Resilient Landscapes Hub is delivering over 50 projects with a focus on, feral animals, invasive species, species recovery, and the use of fire as a management tool. It works with land managers, property owners, Traditional Owners, government, universities, and NGOs. The Hub’s projects are led by researchers from 11 universities, CSIRO, and state government research agencies. It has a budget of $47 million over six years to December 2027.
About the opportunity
- You will support the Hub Leader and the Manager (Communications) in delivering the Hub’s communications strategy.
- Responsible for leading the creation, development, and coordination of science communication products and activities, including writing plain-language summaries, media releases, newsletter stories, and graphical content to explain the research findings to target audiences.
- Contribute to the Hub’s website and social media channels, organise events, and engage with a broad network of stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, indigenous groups, natural resource managers, environment organisations and community groups, and the media.
About you
- Relevant tertiary qualification in science communication or demonstrated equivalent competency in communicating science (preferably environment related).
- Demonstrated ability to understand and translate scientific outcomes into targeted communication products, such as fact sheets, posters, newsletter stories, graphical and conceptual diagrams.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the production of communication materials, preferably using Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, such as government agencies, research institutions, Indigenous groups, natural resource managers, environment organisations community groups and the media.
Special requirements
- Current “C” or “CA” class driver’s licence.
- Occasional travel within the state and interstate may be required.
