Senior Research Project Officer
About This Opportunity
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to research that makes a tangible difference to the safety, wellbeing and future of trade apprentices across Australia. Working within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team and supported by industry funding, the Senior Research Project Officer will apply advanced research and project coordination expertise to explore work-related injury and illness among apprentices through an organisational psychology lens. The role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality, ethically sound research that informs safer systems of work and improved health outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and delivering all stages of the research project lifecycle, including ethics, data collection, analysis, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.
- Providing high-level research project and administrative support, including tracking milestones, deliverables and compliance with approved methodologies.
- Applying advanced quantitative and qualitative analysis using tools such as NVivo, R, SPSS and Mplus.
- Preparing research documentation, reports, figures and presentations for academic, industry and stakeholder audiences.
About You
You will bring a strong foundation in applied research and project coordination, along with a genuine commitment to improving occupational health and safety outcomes. You will demonstrate:
- Completion of a relevant degree in psychology, management, or safety with subsequent experience in coordinating research activities.
- Demonstrated project management skills, including stakeholder management, project communication, and the provision of timely, on budget, and high-quality deliverables.
- Knowledge of Australian trade apprenticeship systems (or ability to quickly acquire such knowledge).
- Experience in applied workplace data collection, advanced quantitative statistical techniques, and qualitative data analysis.
- Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation (including industry project reports and academic papers) and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in industry and research environments.
