About This Opportunity

Step into an exciting opportunity with Dr Itia Favre-Bulle’s team at QBI, where diverse expertise in psychology, neuroscience, physics and computational biology drives discoveries in brain and behaviour. As the key caretaker of our zebrafish colony, you’ll play a vital role in supporting world-class research, breeding, genotyping and developing transgenic lines that power breakthrough experiments. This is a hands-on role at the centre of our collaborative, supportive lab culture, with the chance to contribute directly to innovative neuroscience while building your own skills in a cutting-edge environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage and maintain zebrafish colonies, including breeding, genotyping, and general animal care.
  • Prepare reagents, order consumables, and maintain accurate inventories and compliance records.
  • Support experiments by keeping detailed records and assisting team members as required.
  • Ensure strong safety practices in waste disposal, storage, and chemical/sample handling, and foster a proactive safety culture.
  • Participate in lab meetings, seminars, cross-lab collaborations, and mentor junior staff.

About You

  • Completion of a relevant degree in Biology or Neuroscience with subsequent experience in coordinating activities or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Detailed experience of working with the collection of, analysis and reporting of research data.
  • Demonstrated research relevant knowledge and skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to produce clear, succinct documentation.
  • The ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in a research environment
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with an ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines and work with a high level of adaptability, both independently and as part of a team
  • Relevant experience in a laboratory preferably with zebrafish and molecular techniques or the capability to quickly acquire this knowledge and apply in the workplace.
