Job Summary
The Men's lacrosse Assistant coach will have a sound understanding of the development of students to fulfill their mission as BYU students and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The assistant coach will fulfill the responsibilities of assistant coaching, scheduling, and development of the BYU Men's Lacrosse team. The assistant coach will work effectively in a professional environment on and off the field together with University administrators. The assistant coach will follow University guidelines related to academic standards, policies, Honor Code, and administrative needs. This position is a part-time year-to-year contract, renewable annually, as determined by the University. The time commitment established by the University is intended to be in line with the Affordable Care Act. This position reports to the Extramural Sports Program Manager.
Essential Functions
- The Men's Lacrosse Assistant coach will be responsible for all dealings with the BYU Men's Lacrosse team.
- Responsible for team practices, game day preparations, team travel, and communicating with University administrators on a II matters
- pertaining to the team, students, and University policy.
- Effectively manage extramural budgets, donations, and expenses incurred by the Men's lacrosse program.
- Ensure compliance with University guidelines including grades, class attendance, the Honor Code, and BYU Housing requirements for all members of the Men's Lacrosse team.
- Trains, mentors, and works directly with assistant coaches and athletic trainers.
- Maintains responsibility for team related equipment and its storage.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree; preferably in Physical Education, Recreation Management, Exercise Science & Wellness, Student Affairs, or related field (required)
- Assistant coached 3 or more years at high school or equivalent level (preferred)
- Assistant coached Men's lacrosse at a University level (preferred)
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
- Be familiar with US Men's Lacrosse guidelines and regulations (preferred)
- Know and understand the MCLA conference guidelines (preferred)
- Be an approachable and professional person in the workplace (required)
- Be capable of developing leadership in students via team involvement (required)
- Make graduation from college, the highest priority for team members (required)
- Be an example to students and operate within the boundaries established by the missions of BYU (required)
- Motivate students to do well academically, and work tirelessly to support the Honor Code and the principles it stands for (required
- Collaborate with administrators to provide success for students on and off the field (required)
Employee Class: 3/4 Time Contract (28 hour)
Work Location: Provo Campus
Environment: Rare presence of abnormal variations in temperature and exposure to outside conditions
