Location:Coventry, University of Warwick
Salary:£31,236 to £34,610 per annum
Hours:Full Time

For informal enquiries, please contact James Pring, Facility Manager (Workshops), at James.Pring@warwick.ac.uk

We are looking for a Senior Workshop Technician with a strong electronics background to join our collaborative, multidisciplinary Workshop Facility, supporting research and teaching primarily across the sciences, though we welcome projects from across the University and beyond.

Based in the Electronics workshop, this is a hands-on role focused on the maintenance, repair, and modification of electronic aspects of laboratory instruments, as well as contributing to the design and build of bespoke scientific equipment. You’ll work closely with researchers, engineers, and other technicians to solve practical problems, bring ideas to life, and keep critical equipment running smoothly. The role spans both routine and creative tasks, from fault-finding and component-level repairs to prototyping new devices.

This is an exciting time to join Warwick, as we prepare for STEM Connect, a new integrated space where the Workshop Facility will showcase technical excellence and support cutting-edge science.

This is a great opportunity for an individual wishing to extend and further develop their skills in an academic environment, whilst learning about a growing strategically important department at the University of Warwick.

About You

We’re looking for someone with strong practical experience in electronics, whether gained through professional roles or personal projects. You might be an experienced technician or someone who’s built strong hands-on expertise through practical experience in a range of settings. What matters most is your ability to diagnose problems, create and build innovative solutions, and your motivation to learn and adapt as technology evolves.

You will bring a methodical and practical approach to troubleshooting, along with solid experience in soldering, PCB work and circuit-level repairs. You will have confidence working with both off-the-shelf and bespoke instruments, understand the importance of maintaining high standards of safety and good workshop practice, and bring a collaborative attitude with a willingness to support others in the team as well as work independently.

We recognise that technical skills develop in many ways, and while formal qualifications are welcome, they are not essential where candidates can demonstrate significant relevant experience. We value practical expertise, curiosity, and a proactive approach to technical challenges.

For details on the experience and skills required, please refer to the job description.

CLOSING DEADLINE: Monday 8th December 2025 at 11:55pm (UK Time)

Full details of the duties and selection criteria for this role can be found in the vacancy advert on the University of Warwick's jobs pages. You will be routed to this when you click on the 'Apply' button.
