Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream in Maternal Newborn Health
The School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for Sessional Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream position in Maternal Newborn Health. This is a Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) to the teaching stream for a three-year term to commence July 1, 2026.
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, expertise and recent (2-5 years) experience in reproductive health and the care of birthing people that includes high-risk pregnancy, fetal development, labour and delivery and postpartum/perinatal nursing, newborn health and health care. The candidate should have experience in theoretical and evidence-based/informed care of pregnant persons, perinatal/postpartum and newborn nursing practice, and be committed to family-centred care.
Candidate Qualifications:
- Degree: Master’s degree in Nursing required. Individuals with a PhD or PhD in progress in Nursing or related field (i.e. Public Health, Education) are preferred. Candidates must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario by the appointment’s start.
- Teaching:
- A record or evident promise of excellence in teaching and dedication to students. The successful candidate will demonstrate skillful experience in university level classroom teaching nursing courses with undergraduate BScN students demonstrating knowledge of appropriate learning theory, innovative teaching methodologies and a commitment to ethics, equity, diversity, inclusivity and decolonization (EDID) in their teaching.
- The successful candidate will be expected to coordinate students supervised by clinical course directors in practice settings. The candidate will integrate a variety of learning measures in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning, community-based learning and NCLEX type questions to enhance performance on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN).
- The successful candidate will also demonstrate: 1) a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, 2) the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to teaching, learning and program design in relation to reproductive health, pregnancy, intrapartum, postpartum and newborn health/nursing, and 3) a reflective approach to innovation in teaching.
- Additional: Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred.
