Columbia College’s Department of Nursing is dedicated to preparing exceptional nurses who are practice-ready, compassionate, and resilient. Our state-of-the-art simulation laboratories provide students with hands-on, high-fidelity learning experiences that strengthen clinical decision-making and patient care skills. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Simulation Technician to support the operations of our nursing simulation program.
Position Summary
The Simulation Technician is a vital member of the nursing education team, responsible for the technical and operational support of the simulation laboratories. This role ensures that simulation-based learning experiences run smoothly by preparing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting simulation equipment, manikins, and related technology. The Simulation Technician works closely with the director, simulation lab coordinators, and nursing faculty to deliver high-quality simulation scenarios that enhance student learning outcomes.
This position is part-time staff (24-32 hours per week), with a consistent weekly schedule and occasional evening hours as needed to support labs.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot high-fidelity manikins, audiovisual systems, and simulation technology.
- Prepare, set up, and dismantle simulation and skills labs for scheduled classes and scenarios.
- Provide technical support during live simulations, including running manikin software and responding to faculty/student needs.
- Conduct routine maintenance, updates, and repairs of simulation equipment.
- Collaborate with faculty to support simulation learning objectives.
- Track and manage lab supplies, equipment inventory, and usage.
- Assist in training faculty and staff on simulation equipment operation.
- Ensure a safe, organized, and professional simulation lab environment.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; background in healthcare, information technology, biomedical engineering, paramedic or EMT, or related field strongly considered.
- Experience with simulation equipment or healthcare/education technology preferred.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot hardware/software issues.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced academic setting.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving simulation technologies.
Workload and Hours
- Part-time staff role, 24-32 hours per week.
- Some evening work may be required to accommodate lab schedules.
Compensation
- Salary commensurate with experience and aligned with regional benchmarks for simulation support staff.
