Bennington College welcomes applications for a Social Media Coordinator and Admissions Fellow. This role will join the Enrollment Management Team to build an online community through authentic, engaging content that increases Bennington's visibility.

Responsibilities include creating compelling stories that resonate with prospective applicants, current students, alumni, faculty, and the broader public. The role will elevate Bennington's social media presence, authentically sharing the vibrant campus life, academic excellence, and plurality of voices that form the Bennington community. The ideal candidate will be curious, engaging, adept at content creation, thoughtful, and well-versed in social media, with an enthusiasm for data collection and evidence-based experimentation. The Social Media Coordinator and Admissions Fellow reports directly to the Associate Director of Digital Marketing, serving as Bennington College's central voice-and ear-in the social media landscape. This position will also support Admissions activities, which include conducting info sessions and managing a small territory. Given the requirements of the position, most of the coordinator's work will be performed on campus.

Bennington serves a diverse student population inclusive of members of ethnically/racially minoritized, international, LGBTQIA+, and disability communities as well as diverse gender identities, socioeconomic backgrounds, religions, and political beliefs. Our staff and faculty also reflect diverse and intersecting backgrounds and identities. All employees are expected to be respectful and responsive to these differences in the service of building community that promotes student and employee success and community cohesiveness. Each individual (faculty, staff and students) will be accountable for upholding these values. The College's approach to pluralism and inclusivity-both as fields of inquiry and practice-is to prioritize flexible thought, and to invite the examination of access, value, power, and privilege through its institutional policies and areas of study. We encourage applicants from diverse realms of interest, backgrounds, experience, and accomplishment to apply.

General Responsibilities

  • Create, schedule, and post content on Bennington's social media accounts. Support institutional priorities by overseeing the College's primary social accounts, including Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Threads, Facebook, Bluesky, and TikTok.
  • Tell Bennington stories. Attend campus events, performances, lectures, and exhibitions to capture live content and interview students, faculty, alumni, staff, and special guests. Produce high-quality photo, video, and written content for platform-optimized use.
  • Actively engage with online audiences by responding to comments, DMs, and mentions. Identify and amplify user-generated content that aligns with the College's voice and values. Draft emails and other supplementary communications as needed.
  • Design and maintain reporting routines for social media analytics. Regularly review and share lessons, trends, best practices, and blind spots with colleagues to focus efforts on maximum impact toward collective goals. Track posts and campaigns' performance using platform analytics tools; provide regular reports with recommendations for growth, engagement, and optimization.
  • Continually assess what works in each space, revising and adapting as needed. Work closely with the Associate Director of Digital Marketing to identify and contribute to the conversations that matter to College constituents.
  • Contribute to campaign planning, content calendars, and cross-platform strategies in collaboration with the digital marketing and Admissions teams; ensure that all content supports institutional goals and brand messaging.
  • While differentiating content by platform, maintain a consistent tone, aesthetic, and visual identity that reflects Bennington's unique character and values.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar of all official College social media posts. Train and coach colleagues in other departments on social media usage and style.
  • Support Bennington Admissions activities, including serving as the primary admissions representative for a small local region, serving as counselor of the day, leading information sessions, etc.

This position requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, with proven past success in building and sustaining an audience or community on various social media channels.
  • Demonstrated capacity to cultivate an authentic and compelling voice on behalf of the organization. A sense of humor, combined with sound judgment about how and when to use it. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong photography and videography skills, particularly for creating social media content in line with editorial and marketing goals.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an understanding of how these values are demonstrated digitally, particularly on social media.
  • Creativity, open-mindedness, and the ability to adapt. Must excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Strong organizational skills, with the capacity to set priorities, adjust within an evolving landscape, and carry multiple synchronous projects to a successful conclusion.
  • A good understanding of communications strategy. Professional discretion, capable of managing sensitive or confidential information in an appropriate and timely manner. Able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • A strong technology orientation and extensive knowledge of social media, digital publishing platforms, and the associated analytical tools. Familiarity with social scheduling software (Hubspot preferred), and/or Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Canva, and Google Office Suite.
