"Social Science Research Professional 3"

Stanford REACH Lab in the Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Social Science Research Professional 3 to perform work to support research or develop public programs and policies requiring a high degree of scientific knowledge. Supervise and train less experienced colleagues and provide consultation. The successful candidate will support the efforts of the evaluation of various curriculums, including the Tobacco Prevention Toolkit, Cannabis Awareness & Prevention Toolkit, and Vaping Information, Solutions, and Interventions Toolkit. Prior experience working with community-engaged research and/or health promotion is preferred.

Duties include:

• Assist principal investigators with designing experiments constituting a phase of a research project for which precedents are few; conduct experiments that may involve coordinating a complex experimental protocol. Assist the principal investigator with grant writing and submissions.
• Independently identify/modify standard procedures based on judgment concerning the general goals of a project; select approaches in developing, testing, and evaluating new methods. Review and execute changes to IRB as needed.
• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary teams (in academia, across different faculties or schools, and in industry, across different functions of the business).
• Co-author all or sections of a report for publication or professional presentation with the work being reviewed by the principal investigator or faculty. Assist with submissions of regulatory reports as needed.
• Present ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences across the country.
• Collaborate with the principal investigator to design a research approach of a project and/or integrate results of the entire project. Support team as needed with synthesizing and analyzing data using scientific and/or statistical techniques.
• Lead and complete project-related administrative and budgetary responsibilities of a limited scope as needed.
• Formally supervise and train new staff or students, including hiring, performance management, and related duties, in addition to instruction on techniques and consultation on project work.

Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs. The pay range for this position working in the California Bay area is $100,082 to $118,812.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in an area related to communications, public health, research; experience in tobacco control is preferred
• Prior experience in community-engaged research and/or health promotion is preferred
• Strong grant writer
• Excellent research methods and numerical analyses skills
• Ability to lead a research team throughout an ongoing study in an organized, collaborative manner
• Familiarity with IRB Protocol, specifically submissions, revisions, etc.
• Experience with preparing regulatory reports for submission throughout the study cycles

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): Master's degree. Graduate degree in an applicable social science related field and five years of applicable experience, or combination of education and experience in an applicable social science.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts. Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, operate foot and/or hand controls.
