About Augustana College:
Augustana College is a private, selective, residential college of the liberal arts and sciences with enrollment of about 2500 students. Our beautiful 115-acre campus is located in Rock Island, Illinois, part of the Quad Cities metropolitan area along the Mississippi River, 165 miles west of Chicago, and with a population of 450,000. Job Description:
Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Science beginning in August of 2025. We are seeking applicants from any specialization within computer science, provided that they are dedicated to excellence in teaching. The teaching load is typically six courses per academic year.
In addition to teaching and advising, tenure-track faculty are expected to engage undergraduate students in research projects, and there is institutional support for promoting student-faculty research collaborations.
Our students are also active outside of the classroom, and new faculty will be encouraged to connect with students in extracurricular settings, such as student clubs focusing on cybersecurity, video game design, web/software development, and competitive coding/puzzle solving. Our department also hosts a weekly "department seminar," which includes student and faculty presentations, outside speakers on special topics, interactive workshops, as well as fun social events.
In short, the successful candidate will join a close-knit community of teacher-scholars who work collaboratively to educate the next generation of computer scientists. The successful applicant will enjoy teaching small classes where they get to know their students individually and can work closely with them to help them succeed.
Requirements:
Candidates should hold a PhD in computer science or a closely related field, or be ABD, prior to the position start date. Applicants with a master's degree in a related field and distinguished professional experience may be considered for a non-tenure track position.Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate their interest in a career that centers high quality teaching, their own potential for teaching excellence, a plan for involving undergraduates in future research projects, the ability to engage students in and out of the classroom, a commitment to fostering equity and inclusion, and a commitment to professional growth through improving pedagogical practice and adapting to changing technologies and curricular needs.
