JOB SUMMARY

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting five (5) classes per semester [Fall and Spring] accordance with Cecil College approved Master Syllabi with time in Sociology. A minimum of 2 (maximum of 4) classes a year will be taught in the high school environment to support students who are enrollees in the College’s Early College Academy and Dual Enrollment programs. Classes may be scheduled in the day or evening. The successful candidate will also be responsible for meeting every scheduled class, including the final examination, for the full number of scheduled minutes in the room assigned. Any changes in meeting place or time must be reported to the Office of Academic Programs prior to the class meeting. Due to the need of interaction with students, employees and the college community this position requires in person presence. This position is eligible for limited telework.

This position is available for Fall 2026 but remains open until filled. For best consideration apply by February 1, 2026.

This is an onsite position located in North East, MD.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the approved master course syllabus and stipulations of the department. Teach 30-credit hours per academic year. This position will also be responsible for teaching courses associated with the Early College Academy and Dual Enrollment programs, with a minimum of 2 (maximum of 4) classes per academic year housed in the local K-12 school districts.
  • Meet every scheduled class, including the final examination, for the full scheduled number of minutes. Any changes in meeting place or time should be reported to the Administrative Assistants of Academic Programs and the Department Chair prior to the class meeting.
  • Follow the requirements in the ‘Master Syllabi and Course Syllabi Policy and Procedures’. On the first day of class, provide each student with the Course Syllabus. Course Syllabi must be posted to the College Learning Management System (LMS) prior to or on the day of the first-class meeting.
  • Ensure all course information is available to students no later than the start of the first-class session via the College’s LMS.
  • Follow guidelines related to reporting first and last day of attendance.
  • Establish, post and maintain at least six (6) reasonably distributed office hours per week in a minimum of one-half (1/2) hour increments each Fall and Spring semester.
  • Assist students through informal academic advising appropriate to the department or division.
  • Adherence to College policies and procedures including those on attendance, grading and copyright laws as described in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Comply with leave policies authorizing absences from the classroom.
  • Regularly and routinely check Cecil College phone mail/email/mailbox and respond in a timely manner to emails, including those from the department chair, administrative staff and students.
  • Participate in Academic Monitoring.
  • Administer a final examination or culminating activity during the regularly scheduled final exam period.
  • Submit any Incomplete Grade Contracts to the Administrative Assistants in Academic Programs.
  • Adhere to “End of Semester Checklist.”
  • Submit materials for faculty performance evaluation, on time, to the appropriate CAO or designee.
  • Submit other materials and forms necessary for the College’s purpose or for the College’s compliance with outside regulations and/or regulatory bodies.
  • Prepare and revise necessary master course syllabi and select appropriate textbooks in collaboration with departmental chair or other discipline faculty.
  • Support College-wide testing and actively encourage students to participate.
  • Complete required professional development, including Safe Colleges.
  • Adhere to Duties of Full-time Teaching Faculty Procedure.
  • Support the mission, vision, and values of the College and the policies of the Board of Trustees.
  • Act in accordance with the letter and spirit of applicable laws, College policies, rules, and expectations, and the terms of the contract for the current academic year.
  • Attend all faculty meetings and meetings of other groups to which assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

  • Master’s degree in sociology or related academic discipline; doctoral degree preferred.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience in the related field.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, and academic advising skills.
  • Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, LMS, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
  • Ability to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

· Schedule varies based on course requirements and college and students’ needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical Demands: This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

The starting salary for each level is: Assistant Professor I $53,789.10; Assistant Professor II $56,478.50; Associate Professor I $59,360; Associate Professor II $64,756.4; Professor I $66,604; Professor II $71,727.
