About You

The Application Solution Architect will serve as a pivotal member of the Architecture & Solutions team, responsible for the conception and development of comprehensive end-to-end solutions, encompassing all stages from conceptualisation to detailed designs. This role entails the leadership, prioritisation, and development of Application centric solutions for RMIT University, necessitating close collaboration with IT Services as well as various business stakeholders and senior leadership.

The main purpose of the Application Solution Architect is to work extensively across several initiatives related to Enterprise & Tier 2 applications, such as:

One Identity multiyear program

Application/Persona & architecture integration with the One Identity solutions

Digital Preservation Program

The Digital Preservation Roadmap 2025-2031 Proposal supports RMIT's digital archiving capability by outlining the actions required to ensure the long-term accessibility and usability of RMIT’s digital assets. It involves planning, designing, resource allocation, and the application of preservation methods and technologies to maintain digital content over time.

Application Architecture

Support Horizon II initiatives that have a dependency on Education Cloud. A requirement is core Application solution architecture skills.

The Application Solution Architect will engage extensively with Solution Architects, Operations and other key stakeholders across the University to develop and maintain a suite of architectural artefacts, including Logical and Physical Solution Designs, Patterns, Standards, and Detailed Designs.

The Application Solution Architect will bring to RMIT University a pragmatic, contemporary, and cohesive approach to stakeholder collaboration and engagement, ensuring that the architectural framework is aligned with RMIT’s strategic objectives and is adaptable to future IT capabilities. Additionally, the role is responsible for ensuring that solutions are implemented in accordance with the approved designs and will actively contribute as a key member of the Architecture Working Group.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have experience in:

Developing Application/Integration related Conceptual, Solution, Detailed designs and options papers; including any related artefacts.

Reviewing and providing feedback for designs developed by other Architecture and Solutions Team members across Cloud, Integration, Applications, Infrastructure, Networks, Data/Analytics & AI and End User Computing.

Attending and a voting member of the Architecture Forums, such as the Architecture Working Group.

Assisting with Projects and initiatives in developing Concept Briefs and other project planning documents.

Providing oversight and advice for Application related Projects/Initiatives

Work closely with various business and technical stakeholders to provide guidance and advice on architectural-related matters.

Key Selection Criteria

Over five years of experience developing application solutions, demonstrating a strong understanding of various platforms' capabilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders, including technical teams and non-technical audiences.

Strong understanding of data architecture, security protocols, and compliance requirements within various enterprise application ecosystems.

Experience developing Solution Architecture for a range of Enterprise Applications

Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with business units, supporting their ideas and strategic initiatives.

Experience with Digital Preservation Solutions

Experience with a broad range of technologies, platforms, and deployment environments.

A pragmatic, principle-based approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to resolving complex issues.

Strong communication and collaboration capabilities, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Capability to operate at varying levels of detail, from high-level component or logical architecture to low-level detailed design.

Qualifications:

Master’s or bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
